ZERO-BASED REGULATORY BUDGETING TO UNLEASH AMERICAN ENERGY
The White House
This executive order mandates that key federal agencies attach strict expiration dates to their regulations governing energy production.
Any newly created regulations will be given an expiration date of no more than five years.
Energy production standards and environmental regulations will face routine, mandatory reviews.
Before any regulation can be extended, agencies must offer the public an opportunity to comment on its ongoing costs and benefits.
If an agency fails to extend a rule, the regulation will cease to exist and the agency cannot enforce it.
The directive targets major regulatory bodies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Energy (DoE), and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
Existing energy regulations at these agencies will expire one year after the sunset rule takes effect unless actively extended.
