White House CEQ Unveils Program to Partner with Private Sector on Modernizing Permitting Technology
Council on Environmental Quality
The Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), in collaboration with NASA's Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation, has launched a new initiative called "Permitting Innovators.”
This program seeks to integrate private-sector technology solutions to rapidly modernize and accelerate the federal environmental review and permitting process.
For local communities and taxpayers, slow infrastructure permitting often translates directly into delayed development projects and inflated construction costs.
By upgrading these outdated administrative systems, the government aims to speed up the development of essential local infrastructure without sacrificing practical environmental standards.
This means that everything from new road expansions to critical energy grid updates could break ground faster and with significantly less bureaucratic friction.
To achieve this, the CEQ's Permitting Innovation Center is issuing a public call for tech developers to submit modernized data, software, and collaboration solutions.
Selected private-sector applicants will showcase their tools directly to federal agencies at the inaugural Permitting Innovators Expo in the summer of 2026.
The most viable and high-potential platforms will then be compiled into a federal catalog to be utilized by various agencies across the government.
